I dont know about your sporting event watching parties, but if I’m hosting a bunch of boys for a football game I end up getting stuck in the kitchen.  Boo.

Which is odd because I believe I love football more than my Fireman.  For serious.

Me: When is the Super Bowl this year?

My Fireman: Hmm..

Me: Who is going..?

My Fireman: uhhh..

Yes.  That is how it went.  My Fireman is such a manly, man- but when it comes to football, well, sports in general- he doesn’t keep up, I’m afraid.  Needless to say- I figured out all the questions above on my own account.  Its all good.  He runs into burning buildings and drives an ambulance for a living.

He keeps his manly, man card.

So- back to game day food.  What is easier than letting your slow cooker do the work for your game time munchies?  I’m in!

Place pork in slow cooker. Add 3⅔ cups beef broth to slow cooker, cover, and cook on low for about 6-8 hours or until pork is tender and falling apart.

Meanwhile, prepare BBQ sauce. Combine all ingredients, along with the remaining 1/3 cup beef broth in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 15-30 minutes or until mixture is slightly thickened, and cranberries are broken down, stirring occasionally.

Remove from heat and strain the cranberry sauce through a small metal sieve, pushing through using the back of a large spoon.

Remove pork from slow cooker, pull apart with 2 forks or chop into desired shredded state. Mix with BBQ sauce. Spoon pork, about 1/4 cup, into small rolls and top with onion and cilantro, or your favorite slaw!

The sauce can seem labor intensive, but the flavor is amazing!  You can actually make it up to 2 days ahead of time and store it in the fridge until your ready to use.  I would warm it in the microwave or on the stove before adding it to your pork to keep your sliders hot.

Whats your game day menu look like?

  1. I really like the cranberry addition here. I am with your man about football-I would care way more about the food ;)
